My Take On 2012

Posted by: Laina Orlando on 1/6/2012

Much has been said about 2012, and believe me, I've read or heard more than my fair share of it.

Sure there is the inconvenient Apocalypse looming, the Mayan Calendar's prophesy of the end of times, the Last Testament 's prediction of doomsday, and the return of Jesus Christ. We also hear that the magnetic poles are shifting, and the solar flairs will burn up the world, unless the comet Nibiru gets here first. I recently read thatthe Mormon's are building a secret giant underground city, for only Mormons, of course. And the Jehovah's Witness are busily saving souls, before Armageddon, one door knock at a time. If you ask me, Armageddon sounds more like a potent energy drink. But I digressed.  And of course, let's not forget: Nostradamus' Quatrain II.46 which warns us: It will rain blood, milk, famine, war and disease. In the sky will be seen a fire, dragging a tail of sparks.

All gloom and doom, except for the Jesus part, which I absolutely believe in, but not in the traditional way. But that's for another article. So my conclusion about all of this is that Al Gore was right about global warming, he was just off by a few thousand degrees. I guess Nelly's hip-hop hit song is a fitting anthem for 2012: It's getting hot in here, so take off all your clothes!

Seriously, if we burn up or explode, oh well, I'll deal with that in that Now moment.  In this Now moment, I'll share my perspective on 2012. I believe that the outer-world, is a reflection of our inner-world.  As we move from an ego controlled inner-world thought system, where separation is at the core, and thus fosters a belief system of superior and inferior humans, the outer-world is undergoing the same thing, as evidenced by the endless wars that have left a bloody trail, which spans thousands of years.

The inner-world, ruled by the ego-made belief that our self worth is determined by our net-worth, is being projected onto the world's economic instability.  Our inner-world's old belief structure, which is physically manifested as the neural pathways in our brain, is being projected as the crumbling infrastructures around the world, which are causing us to look for new ways of getting around. That, by the way, is a good thing, both within and outside. And our inner-world's emotional turmoils are represented in the outer-world as the turbulent weather systems that have ravaged many communities.

I have come to view the ego's belief structure, of separation and divisiveness, directly correlating with the world's belief in otherness, pitting the ones on the "right" side against the those on the "wrong" side, into wars without winners. The ego's loud screams, cloaked in the fear of injustice and extermination, are plastered on the front pages of newspapers and tabloids and lead the evening news broadcasts around the globe. This, however, is just one side of the coin.

On the other side of the same coin, is the quiet yet escalating, call for unity, emanating deep from within the soul of humanity.  Just as the financial crisis took years to erupt, so too a movement to expand awareness has been spreading, although slower than a Twitter post of a Justin Bieber sighting.

As our inner-world has been gripped with a call for self-love and inner peace, so too in the outer-world many souls have been moved to aid earthquake and hurricane ravaged areas, deliver medication to AIDS victims and food to the hungry in third world countries. All in the name of compassion and love for one another.

As we honor our inner-world's need for self-awareness, through the use of therapy, coaching and energy healing, the outer world is reflecting the peaceful nature of the "occupy" movements, the withdrawal of troops from Iraq and President Obama considering the creation of a Department of Peace.

As many are undergoing, the painful yet courageous inner-work, of untangling the ego's belief structure that we are insignificant, unworthy and greedy, the outer-world is reflecting that change through the downsizing of homes, the simplification of  lifestyles and the return to a healthier, more organic way of life. And of course, we have witnessed the young, and seemingly "inferior", people of Libya and Egypt overthrowing the "superior "dictatorships, in a quest for equality through democracy.

Organizations and governments are breaking down, under the weight of their arrogance, need to control, and financial woes. And organizations are being birthed that promote diversity, personal freedom and community.  Facebook is expected to go public this year, as a relatively new company, with a mind blowing membership of over 800 million people around the world, and an estimated potential value of $100 billion dollars! By the way, Facebook's mission is to give people the power to share and make the world more open and connected.

Currently, one of the fasted growing category for books is self-help, with many spiritual books in this mix. Oprah has launched a network with the intention of empowering people. The world-wide web makes it possible for everyone and everything to have a voice. And quantum science is proving that when everything solid is dissected, under the most potent of magnifying instruments, everything is made up of the same thing - nothing, nada, zilch!

Although we don't see it plastered on billboards, but it is evidenced by the popularity of Facebook and Twitter, we are becoming a more connected people, moving toward unity through our increasingly expanded awareness of our Oneness. 2012, then is a tipping point, the threshold, the shift, the bridge we must cross, from separation toward Oneness. From thinking to feeling,  from hate to compassion, from competition to cooperation. From me to WE! It's a shift from our head to our heart. From fear to love.

The turbulence 2012 will offer us then, is the opportunity to choose to look within and see how our ego's came to believe in separation in the first place. The paradox is that in order to experience Oneness, we must first become aware of how and why we came to believe in separation. We must look at the beliefs we hold that support separation, and shift to a belief system that supports Oneness. The shift is truly and inside job.

Regardless of what happens in 2012, I know for sure that I Am the change I want to see in the world.  And many, many more, are quietly drinking the Oneness Kool-Aid. And because this is happening we have tipped the scales in favor of love.  We are looking for solutions through acceptance. We are practicing compassion through forgiveness. And we are committed to saving the One planet we all call home.

The shift is happening. And it is because fear is looking for love!

This is my story and I am sticking to it!
